How to Compete

How Competition Will Work

You will play both Nintendo World Championship and Nintendo Campus Challenge 91 for 6 minutes and 21 seconds each. This is same time period allotted during the original competitions.

Scoring: Your score for both games will be recorded and the highest combined scores will be displayed on our online leaderboard. The competitors with the ten highest combined scores will be invited back for the Championship Round.

Championship Round: All ten competitors will play at the same time. Five people will play Nintendo World Championship first and five will play Nintendo Campus Challenge, and then everyone will switch to play the other game. The highest combined score in the championship round will be declared the winner and earn eternal gaming glory.

Cost to Enter

The game competition is free but it is being held at the Classic Game Expo, which costs $25 to attend for the entire weekend.

Registration

There is no early registration for the Retro Game Championship, entry will be on a first come first served basis the day of the Championship. A maximum of 450 people can participate during the general competition round.

Full Rules and Scoring

  1. Contestants play both Nintendo World Championship and Nintendo Campus Challenge 91 cartridges for 6 minutes and 21 seconds.
  2. Only 1 entry allowed per person. Multiple play-throughs will disqualify contestant.
  3. Ranking is determined by highest combined score.
  4. Organizers must verify score. DO NOT leave score screen until we have verified it.
  5. Contestants DO NOT need to reach the final game for their score to count on either cartridge.
  6. Top 10 scores qualify for finals at 3:15pm Sunday. If top qualifiers are not present at 3:15pm we will go down the list of top scores until contestants fill all 10 finalist positions.
  7. Top combined score at finals is Grand Champion and wins trophy and t-shirt. All finalists win a t-shirt. Top 30 scores win a t-shirt.
